The End

Disclaimer: This includes spoilers for Curse of Strahd so don’t read if you don’t want to know.

The group stood frozen after hearing the booming voice of the Abbot. We didn’t know what to do and headed outside to see what our options were. Before we could make it outside, we were whisked away. It turned out our group had been teleported by Mordenkainen. When we arrived at a grassy clearing somewhere, we saw Esmeralda there looking sick and Irina was also there looking just as bad. Of course Mordenkainen was present and we noticed that Madam Eva, the old gypsy matriarch that had read our fortunes back in the beginning of this crazy adventure, was there as well. She looked sad beyond measure. Her face was downcast and serious.

Madam Eva quickly explained that while we defeated the main bad guys we set out to defeat, there were other forces that had managed to escape during our battle. The other queens, she said, were free and gone to fulfill their dark desires for more power. This fluctuation of magic had rippled across the cosmos and the gods, in their terror, had awoken the old gods to come and eradicate their problem since we had failed. She explained that the old gods were stronger. They were forces of creation so powerful that they could create and destroy anything in an instant.

They were coming to cauterize this wound in magic, this pocket prison now busted wide open. The group began to argue asking after the good people still existing in Barovia and perhaps hatch a plan to get them out. Madam Eva interrupted and told us there was no time. She barely had enough to bring us here and now she had one last act to commit. She turned from us and walked away with her arms and face reaching to the sky. We followed her gaze and saw burning there in the opaque sky twelve burning lights of such brilliance that we could not see the beings at their center.

At the fore was another being, much closer than the rest. This one Aleera could see. She was the only one. It was completely enveloped in what looked like robes made of stars and space with a face that looked like the eclipse of a moon with bright eyes peering out. Eva screamed out into the air, “It is time Aeon, my master. I have brought them here. Free them please! Save them!” Before we could react to her words the world began to spin for us.

This is the Pathfinder version but, our DM (my hubbie) thought he looked cool.

The last thing Aleera saw before her world went black was Madam Eva smiling at them with tears streaming down her face and those twelve lights heralded by that strange Aeon she had called. Then, in a blink, nothing. Darkness…

This is the end of the group’s adventure in Barovia and their fight against Strahd von Zarovich. I will be continuing their story and you’ll have to keep reading on to find where they end up or even if all of them made it. The next chapter is completely homebrewed so stay tuned! 🙂
