Dice, Dice, Dice!

Most of the stories I write or articles I post are serious and to the point but today I just want to have fun. With dice. Yup, I’m one of those people that collects dice like they are precious gems. I bought a special bag for my dice on Etsy and I haven’t stopped collecting since. I even have a monthly subscription for dice from Critical Dice. So let me take you with me into my obsession.

I organize them by type so each dice goes in one of the pockets of the giant dice bag I have. It keeps everything in its place and I never have to go looking for my dice. If I were a dragon, my hoard would be all dice. My bag has some cute charms, and pins I’ve gotten over the years. My favorite is that little reaper, he’s adorable! I don’t know how many dice this bag fits but I’ll check once it’s full. That might take a while though, the bag is pretty big.

I have so many dice bags but these are just the best ones. I keep all my dice in these bags. While most of the dice have their own pocket, I keep the D20’s in the dice bags. My chonky Kraken die has its own special bag it came in. The purple bag is the first set of Vox Machina D20’s from Critical Role. The white and black bag is a Urwizards dice bag for my special amethyst dice set. The grey and white tall bags are the second set of Vox Machina dice for Critical Role, these were released as entire sets for each character. I bought Vex and Percy because they were my favorite characters that season.

These are all of my D20’s. My favorite color is purple and it shows in how many purple dice I have. There are other colors though. Many are from the Critical Dice monthly subscription I pay for but some are super special. The clear with shadows dice set is incomplete but was given to me by a friend and former table member that moved away. The Kraken Die was the first thing I ever won on a Twitter giveaway by Fates Grip, a podcast group from Australia. Btw, they are super awesome!

Then come the rest of the dice. I took them all out for you to see. There are so many more than I thought. I’m a little intimidated by the amount of dice I have already hoarded. The bad part is, that I have no plans of stopping. Once I heard that there were people out there with barrels of these things, I’m pretty sure I said I was going to be one of those people too. They are just so beautiful. Like stones that are precious only to me.

These are my Amethyst Urwizards dice set. A friend got them for me after our first campaign ended. They represent my Bard, Aleera. She dressed in purples and traversed the worlds with The Traveler. These are a representation of that end. It was bittersweet but I will always have these gorgeous Amethyst dice to remember her by.

I also recently got some super cool glow in the dark dice. The Kraken die glows too. I could only capture the larger glow but the others are amazing too! As a child of the 90’s and early millennia, I love me some glow in the dark stuff. I can’t help it. I always use the Kraken die when in a really crazy battle. It has saved my butt more times than I can count now.

I have assigned dice for each campaign too. Right now I’m using some icy themed dice for our Icewind Dale run. I also included some dice for the Aurora Borealis that appears and gold dice for the eyes of my Protector Aasimar Paladin, Brenna Wolfheart. There are black dice for the black ice curse that sometimes plagues the icy wilds. I know it’s weird but I think it really matter what kind of dice you use. They set the mood and can be helpful or deadly.

Barrels. That’s the ultimate goal. I want to be able to roll around in piles of dice. Not very comfortable but alas that is the life of the Dice Dragon. Always hunting, searching for more dice for her hoard. She never sleeps for fear of bandits and thieves making off with her precious treasure. Like Smaug beneath the mountain, I love and guard my shiny piles of dice.

My husband and I run a dungeons and dragons table together and I write about our crazy adventures both in and out of the story. My husband DM's and I am the table artist. I paint minis for everyone at the table and provide crafted gifts like dice boxes, bags, and artwork.
