Miniature Showcase

Intellect Devourers

We ran into these nasty parasites in the city of Waterdeep during out last campaign. I bought them at my local game shop and they were so tiny! I was worried I wouldn’t be able to add much detail.

I started with a basic skin tone for the base tone. I used about three layers of watered down miniature paint to get the opacity I wanted. These guys were super scary to paint, there are some miniatures I paint where even I get creeped out by.

I added detail into the “brain” portion of the miniature by using my Glistening Blood effect paint to outline the creases in the “brain”. Just adding the blood detail began making these creatures look more alive.

To deepen the folds and shadows, I coated everything in a flesh wash. It added a darker hue to the skin of the “brain”. It added a more sinister look to them too, so I was pretty happy with the outcome.

I finished them off by painting the base in grey for stone. We encountered them underground, in the sewers of Waterdeep, so I wanted the miniatures to reflect that environment. These were a delightfully creepy addition to our growing collection of miniatures.

My husband and I run a dungeons and dragons table together and I write about our crazy adventures both in and out of the story. My husband DM's and I am the table artist. I paint minis for everyone at the table and provide crafted gifts like dice boxes, bags, and artwork.
