Miniature Showcase

Gjallarhorn

Gjallarhorn is my Watcher Paladin, Brenna Wolheart’s, steed in our current campaign. M y husband bought him for me on Etsy. Since it is a celestial spirit, I wanted the ram shape that it took to reflect that. I used a new white primer on the miniature to start.

After priming, I painted the miniature’s fur with a dark gray and a heavy dry brush of white over the top to enhance the depth of the fur. It doesn’t look too different now but it really looks like fur later on. I also thought it would be a matching color to the cold wilderness we are in.

I added a final dry brush of the fur with some gold paint. It adds a nice shine to the fur the really evokes a celestial origin to me. I also began painting the hooves in solid gold and the horns in solid gold as well. Descriptions of Heimdall, Brenna’s patron, say that he is a golden man with golden hair, skin and raiments so I wanted my ram to represent that.

For the saddle, I went with a very dark brown for the leather. I wanted a very dark and deep color for the base of the saddle. It wasn’t done yet but I was already super happy with the progress. It’s brightness was also a large contrast to the terrain we are traversing in Icewind Dale.

I added a light tan dry brush to the leather saddle and used a bit of gold to line some of the edges. I used a light tan for the underbelly straps on the saddle. I am really liking the color scheme on this miniature.

I finished the gold on the hooves and horns. The saddle reached all the way from the forehead to the tail with small golden accents scatter throughout. I also painted the eyes black. I loved painting this steed for my character, it just makes my paladin seem so cool!
