Frostmaiden Second Form

The base was completed for the second form of the Frostmaiden to sit on. This is the completed miniature. For the main body of the Frostmaiden, I used a frosty bright blue as the base coat and then dry brushed white over the blue to give it an icing over effect. I made it very simple because I really liked the crude effect it gave the miniature. Where the base and other ice effects around her will be a softer snowy look, I wanted her to be jagged and rough.

I also began using a new effect paint I bought called Rigid Leather. I wanted her clothing to be rough too. She will be wearing a simple leather top so I thought the effect paint would make it look realistic. I also used the Rigid Leather paint on the top of the loincloth/skirt she is wearing. The main cloth portion was painted white. I thought it a fitting color to match the wintery surroundings. I love the contrast of the leather against her body, the colors really make each other pop.

I added some small details in the body. First, since the ice of the base and other ice effects were painted with fluorescent blue to add some magic and glow to the miniature, I wanted her to have very little glow. I only added the blue in her eyes to show the focus of her magic was in her gaze or housed within her body. I also added some bronze effects to the skirt. The hanging spear tip shapes and the studding along the fabric were painted bronze to elevate her clothing a bit. I feel that as the self proclaimed ruler of Icewind Dale she would have some sparkle to her clothing.

Once I was done with the body, I attached it to the base using super glue. If you look closely, you can see a bit of the seam where the two parts attached. Although, I will say that it is barely noticable if you don’t know where to look. The other effects on the base also help obscure the seam so it doesn’t detract from the overall effect. The final ice effect was the two dragon like ice serpents that emerge from the ice around her. I used the same paint job as the base. I started off with the light grey paint base, wet brushed some frosty blue on it and went over the whole thing with a dry brush of white to soften the icy look a bit.

The final step was to attach the two dragon/serpent effect to the miniature. The overall effect makes her look much bigger than she really is, but she is so terrifying in her full glory. My only concern for this miniature is the back where on of the seams for the serpents connecting with the base is very noticeable. I might go back over it with green stuff to fill it in. That is really my only complaint for this miniature. I really like how the Frostmaiden stands out in spite of being surrounded by her own ice.

The final thing was to see how the blue fluorescent paint looks under black light. I have to say the effect was dazzling! I love the blue glow surround the Frostmaiden and the light touch of the blue in her eyes. The effect made me really happy. It was exactly what I wanted from this miniature.
